Bills, Bills, Bills

As a wee lad, I remember watching with great interest as my dad would pay bills. I’d watch him write out the checks, put them in envelopes and then stamp and address those envelopes. I’m certain that my money-handling ability came from my dad, but how I handle money and pay bills is significantly different from how he did it.

Aside from rent and the water bill, I pay all of my bills online. It’s fast, convenient, efficient and saves money. (Think of all those stamps I don’t need!) These days it takes a few clicks and a modern day cashless transaction is initiated. It kind of makes me wonder if I’ll someday have a son who watches in awe as I gradually click our money away. It just doesn’t seem like it would have quite the same impact on a child.

Having said all that, I sort of enjoy paying my bills. I know it may sound weird, but it makes me feel like a grownup. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t make me want to throw a party or anything. I just like feeling like a responsible adult.

I don’t always pay my bills though. Every now and then I get a credit card bill for “$0.00.” Perhaps I should mail them a check for “$0.00.” Now that would be enjoyable fun. Heh.
